Absynthe's DSO Killer v1.0.1

Comments: I'm amazed that people are still downloading the few things I developed for Tribes 2 over 2 years ago. I've learned quite a bit since then so I've gone back and spent a few minutes updating my DSO removal tool to be smarter.

Description: It slices, it dices. It will remove every DSO file from your GameData\base directory, GameData\classic, hell... anything in GameData. This is not a bulk kill, but one that is done with finesse. Directory structures will be left intact as well as any other files including .CS files you may have added. Best time to run this program is after you've patched the game. Especially one that makes gameplay changes.

Installation: Run the setup.exe program. I know its overkill for such a tiny app but it does correctly register Active X controls and other DLLs. Once the install is done feel free to move the app or delete the StartMenu shortcuts.

Usage: Just run the app from the menu or double-click it. absDSOKiller will find Tribes 2 on your hard drive via the Windows Registry. However, if you've moved the program or otherwise have some different configuration absDSOKiller will prompt you for the location of the Tribes2.exe file.

Once everything is kosher a list of DSO files will be displayed. Click the Delete DSO Files... button and confirm your choice. The files will be removed but directory structures and other files will remain intact. (Like any .CS files you added to the AUTOEXEC directory under SCRIPTS)

Note: If you have trouble running the program try downloading/installing the VB Runtime environment found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=28337

Absynthe's Message Filter v1.0.1

Description: This script provides several functions:

1) A way to deal with those annoying taunts. A taunt is defined as anything under VGT* in the chat menu. This filter does not distinguish between either your team or the opposition. No matter what setting you use, your taunts will be permitted through in all their glory. Options available are:

  • None - Normal game playing mode.
  • No Voice - This allows text part of the taunt to display but no voice sample is played.
  • No Voice/Text - Neither the voice nor text gets through.

2) Control compliments, anything issued by pressing VGC* in the chat menu. Settings are same as above.

3) Control globals, messages issued as VG* from the chat menu can get tedious. Everyone saying "Hi", or "Bye", or "Wahoo". Filter settings are same as above.

4) Some players may repeat the same message over and over and over. Thanks to Tribes flood control they can only get four out before they are shut down for ten seconds. But, why wait for that? Turn on the Repeat Message Filter and the next time some sends a chat message two, three, or four times in a row, only the first one will play for you. If someone does manage to interrupt the repeating player it will count as a new message again in which case one more message from the repeating player will get through.

5) Deathmessages appear in your main HUD. One appears each time you or anyone else in the entire game is killed. This can clutter the message HUD and cause important messages to scroll off before you can read them. This filter fixes that with several different options:

  • None - Normal game playing mode.
  • Allow Team Kills - Only when a member of your team, including yourself, will have kill messages displayed. Enemy kills will not show.
  • Allow My Kills - Your kills and only your kills will display.
  • Everything - No kill message of any kind is displayed.

NOTE: In order for the team kills option to work, you MUST have PanamaJack's PJSupport1.cs script installed. It is included with this install but you can also get it from his site at http://www.planettribes.com/pj/ If you have already installed some or all of Panajack's scripts then this file is probably already present.

Installation: Extract absFilter.zip into your Tribes 2 directory. When completed you should have three files that in a default install appear here:

..\Tribes2\GameData\base\scripts\autoexec\absFilter\absFilter.cs
..\Tribes2\GameData\base\scripts\autoexec\absFilter\PJSupport1.cs
..\Tribes2\GameData\base\scripts\autoexec\absFilter\ReadMe.txt

If you are already using PanamaJack's All-In-One script, or just about any of his scripts, delete the PJSupport1.cs script from the absFilter folder. This script supports Writer's SCRIPT loader.

Though not needed, I strongly recommend getting Writer's SUPPORT script from this site Tribes Depot

Absynthe's MP3Player v1.0.3

Description: Play MP3's from within Tribes 2. Includes a playlist editor for generation playlists prior to game start. Tracks are listed in the message hud as seen above. An in-game menu allows you to switch between tracks, playlists, and adjust options.

In game dialog - showing tracks

In game dialog - showing options

Installation: Extract absmp3player.zip into your Tribes 2 directory. When completed you should have three files that in a default install appear here:

..\Tribes2\GameData\base\scripts\autoexec\absMP3Player\absPlayListEditor.exe
..\Tribes2\GameData\base\scripts\autoexec\absMP3Player\Comdlg32.ocx
..\Tribes2\GameData\base\scripts\autoexec\absMP3Player\ReadMe.txt
..\Tribes2\GameData\base\absMP3Player.vl2

For convenience, you'll probably want to make a shortcut to absPlayListEditor.exe for easy use. This script supports Writer's SCRIPT loader. Though not needed, I strongly recommend getting Writer's SUPPORT script from this site Tribes Depot

Note: If you have trouble running the absPlayListEditor.exe try downloading/installing the VB Runtime environment found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=28337

NOTE: If you get an error when opening/saving playlists using absPlayListEditor.exe copy the COMDLG32.OCX file (included in the install) into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (for 9.x) or WINNT\SYSTEM32 (for NT/2000).

You might also try installing my DSOKiller. It uses a proper VB installation routine which also happens to use the exact same system files as this program.
